Werewolf Songs: Music Inspired By Swedish Folklore is made up of songs by eleven artists from Sweden, Finland, Belgium, England and the United States. The album accompanies a book on Swedish folk beliefs about lycanthropy, Varulven I Svensk Folktradition (The Werewolf In Swedish Folklore), which was written by pioneering female ethnologist Ella Odstedt (1892–1967) and first published in 1943. It uses both older material in the Swedish national archives of folklore alongside accounts collected by Odstedt herself during many years of travels in remote and, at the time, undeveloped regions of Sweden.
Werewolf Songs: Music Inspired By Swedish Folklore is reviewed by Daniel Spicer in The Wire 339 and is out now on Malört Förlag.
